Traditionally tribal tattoos

Traditionally tribal tattoos
Traditionally tribal tattoos
Traditionally tribal tattoos were for numerous reasons. Regularly believed to help gain easy entry into adulthood or even the afterlife, tattoos were widely recognized as the best method to do both that and to help receive extra bonuses when the recipient finally got there.

In Tribal Fusion Belly Dance, the delicate and elaborate tattoos often seen on the body are very much part of the look and this scene, to me it is a walking representation of creativity, art and freedom. A little bit sassy, and different of course give Tribal Fusion its edge and strength. The women represent their power and strength as well as their beauty and grace.

The vulnerability of the human form as well as emphasize its inherent beauty in the tattoo series. The canvas evolves into a mystical journey by portraying the story that the image on the male or female tells within the context of the overall painting. I select the models based on the intricacy of the pattern on their bodies and how those patterns will blend with the philosophical message of the painting.

Japanese were tattooing themselves

Japanese were tattooing
Japanese were tattooing
There are some records that indicate that the Japanese were tattooing themselves back as far as 300 BC and possibly even earlier but it is a subject that is debate by scholars. These earliest tattooing was done as some soft of religious symbol. Then for a long period of time tattoos became a way to mark criminals. Then during the Edo Period the art of tattoo became wildly practiced as woodblock artist started to use their tools to tattoo the body. This developed the art of tattooing away from a way of marking criminals and over time it became an art form and sort of a social status symbol. In modern history "irezumi" (Japanese term for tattooing) was associated mostly with the Yakuza or Japanese gangs.

Tribal Tattoos of Ancient Filipinos

Tribal Tattoos of Ancient Filipinos
The art of tribal tattooing among ancient tribes were essentially performed in a similar manner differing only in the symbols and ingredients used in the actual tattoo. First, soot and sugar cane juice are mixed and then rubbed onto the skin. Lard, gall and even hen’s excrement is also used in its place.
Traditional tribal tattooing is very demanding and painful. The tattooed skin is injured and irritated. Swelling may last for a few weeks. Because of this, tribal tattooing is done in different sessions allowing the body time to heal. The completion of the tattoo may take months depending on its intricacy.
